In order to sell glass we, of course, have to buy it first. We buy from auctions, antique fairs, and flea markets, but an increasing amount of our stock comes from collectors or members of the public who have inherited some valuable glass.
They may decide to put the glass into an online or land-based auction but they will have to wait for the auction to occur and then typically another month for the resultant funds to reach their bank account. The amount they will receive will be the hammer price achieved less the seller’s fees demanded by the auction house. This can vary between 15%-35% of the hammer price. That is to say if it sells for £100 they will receive between £65 and £85.
We offer to buy the glass that we want at the anticipated hammer price at auction so that the seller will receive the full £100 in the example above. Why do we do this? Well, if we bought it at auction we’d have to pay the buyer’s fees which vary between 25% and 35% of the hammer price; so a £100 hammer price means we have to pay between £125 and £135. So good business for both of us. And you get your money immediately.
We buy antique glass, mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries, luxury glass from famous makers such as Lalique and Baccarat, and hand-made (mouth-blown) glass of the 20th and 21st centuries if we can identify the artist/manufacturer. We do not buy generic, unsigned cut glass. If you are interested in possibly selling your glass to us then please email or WhatsApp us and attach images of what you have to sell. We will get back to you within 24 hours and let you know if we have an interest or not.
