This is a pair of early Victorian heavily-cut jelly glasses dating from the middle of the 19th century, c1850.
The glasses are in excellent condition for their age. This means, of course, that they show age related wear and tear to the rims of the feet consistent with some one hundred plus years of use. They have polished out pontil marks on the underside of the feet.
The glasses have rounded funnel-shaped bowls measuring 6.5 cm. (2.6 inches) in diameter at the rims. The bowls are cut with large diamonds and have dentated rims. The bowls sit directly on facet-cut conical feet which measure 5.6 cm. (2.2 inches) in diameter. The glasses are 11 cm (4.4 inches) in height. The “teeth” of the glasses have very minor flea bites to the extremities which is to be expected in this type of glass. There are no other chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. Having said that one of the “teeth” on one glass is less round than the others and may have had a slight grinding down, but we believe it was just made this way when originally cut.
They are made from lead metal weighing 240 g. (~ 8 oz.) each.
