This is a Georgian, English, half wrythen-moulded dwarf ale glass dating from the second half of the 18th century, c1770.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot consistent with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has a funnel-shaped bowl measuring 5.8 cm (2.3 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is wrythen-moulded to the lower half of the bowl and to the extruded stem which ends in a conical, folded foot that measures 7.4 cm (3 inches) in diameter. The glass is 13.5 cm (5.4 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a small, thin unburst bubble and an extraneous blob of glass in the metal of the bowl dating from manufacture. The words “H G Barstow(?)” have been naively diamond point engraved into the outside of the bowl above some chevrons. There are a couple of very old dealer’s stickers stuck on the underside of the foot. These can easily be removed with a good wash if desired.
It is made from English lead metal weighing 120 g. (~ 4 oz.).
