This is a cut glass preserve or sugar bowl, cover and stand dating from the 19th century.
The bowl is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear consistent with over 100 years of use.
It has a cup-shaped bowl and measures 13 cm (5.2 inches) in diameter at its widest point. The bowl is cut with a band of hobnail diamonds above and below prism cutting and a band of finger flute cutting just under the rim. The bowl is 6 cm (2.4 inches) in height without the cover and stand and 9.5 cm (3.8 inches) in height to the top of the finial with the cover and stand.
The cover is cut in the same form as the bowl and we believe it to be the original. It is of the same colour and metal as the bowl and is a good fit. It is cut with the same diamond and prism cutting and has a cut solid ball finial. The edge has radial cutting which complements the radial cutting on the stand which has a star-cut base.
There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other evidence of restoration. An impressive piece of cut glass in almost pristine condition.
Anglo Irish lead glass weighing in at 660 g. (~ 1 lb 7 oz).
