This is a Georgian, English, double series opaque twist champagne or sweetmeat glass dating from the second half of the 18th century, c1765.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has a lipped double ogee-shaped bowl measuring 9 cm (3.6 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl sits on two collars and a double series opaque twist stem consisting of a pair of white enamel cords wound around a central gauze twist. The stem ends in a domed and folded foot which measures 8.8 cm (3.5 inches) in diameter. The glass is 16.5 cm (6.6 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a collector’s sticker on the underside of the foot.
English lead glass weighing in at 320 g. (~ 11 oz.).
