This is a Georgian, English, hop and barley engraved plain stem ale glass dating from the middle to late 18th century, c1760.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has an extended rounded funnel-shaped bowl measuring 5.3 cm (2.1 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is engraved with a single hop flower to one side and with crossed barley ears to verso. The bowl sits on a short, extruded plain stem and a conical foot which measures 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter. The glass is 15.1 cm (6 inches) in height. There are some tiny unburst bubbles in the metal of the foot dating from manufacture. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
It is made from lead metal weighing 155 g. (~ 5 1/2 oz.).
