This is a small Georgian, engraved taper spirit decanter dating from the second half of the 18th century, c1790.
The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear consistent with some 200+ years of use There is a polished out pontil mark on the base of the decanter.
The decanter is taper shaped. The neck is scale-cut and there is a medial band of three large cut-glass stars and a basal band of finger flute cutting. The decanter is otherwise plain. The base is plain save for a polished out pontil mark and measures 8.2 cm (3.3 inches) in diameter. The decanter is 19.3 cm (7.7 inches) in height without the stopper and 24.2 cm (9.7 inches) in height with the stopper inserted.
The stopper is of clipped disk form, and is probably not the original. It is of the same age, style and metal as the decanter and is a good fit but it can be made to rock gently in the neck which we would not expect if it was the original.
There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
