This is a Georgian, English, “Somerset” wrythen-moulded dwarf ale glass dating from the turn of the 18th/19th centuries, c1800.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the foot which is nicely striated.
The glass has a funnel-shaped bowl measuring 6.3 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is loosely wrythen-moulded hence the Somerset attribution. The bowl sits on a short, wrythened plain stem with two knops and a conical foot which measures 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter. The glass is 13.5 cm (5.4 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There some tiny unburst bubbles in the metal of the foot dating from manufacture.
It is made from lead metal weighing 150 g. (~ 5 oz.).
