This is a scarce Georgian, double series opaque twist sweetmeat glass dating from the middle to end of the 18th century, c1770.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has a double ogee-shaped bowl measuring 9.8 cm (3.9 inches) in diameter at the slightly everted rim. The bowl is cut with two prism cuts above a band of large vesicas within which are cut diamonds, above a smaller band of cut vesicas and a basal band of olives. The bowl sits on a double series opaque twist stem consisting of eight white enamel “cotton” strands wound around a central gauze with shoulder and basal knops. The stem ends in a domed foot which measures 8.3 cm (3.3 inches) in diameter. The glass is 15.2 cm (6.1 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
Lead glass weighing in at 280 g. (~ 10 oz.).
