Pair of William IV/early Victorian Masonic armorial ale glasses

£195.00

This is a pair of late Georgian armorial-engraved Masonic ale glasses dating from the beginning of the 19th century.
The glasses are in excellent condition for their age.  This means, of course, that they show age related wear and tear commensurate with some 180 years of use.
The glasses have extended bucket-shaped bowls and are decorated with five different engraved Masonic shields to one side and share the same stylized bouquet of flowers and foliage on the reverse.   The bowls measure 6.3 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter at the rims.   The bowls sit on capstan stems with medial angular knops and shallow, conical feet that measure 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter.   The glasses have polished out pontil marks on the bases of the feet.  The glasses are 17.8 cm (7.1 inches) in height.  Dimensions vary slightly from glass to glass.  There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration.
Each glass weighs in at 228 g. (~ 8 oz.).
