This is a large, hand-blown, facet cut stem candlestick dating from the 19th century.
The candlestick is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows the age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200 years of use.
The candlestick has a cylinder-shaped candle holder bowl measuring 3.7 cm (1.5 inches) in diameter at the rim. The candle holder and stem are cut with hexagonal facets. There is an octagonal drip ring to the top of the stem. The stem ends in a domed and heavily cut foot which measures 16.5 cm (6.6 inches) in diameter at its widest point and carries a rough pontil mark to the underside. The candlestick is 31 cm (12.4 inches) in height without the socle inserted and 33 cm (1 ft. 1 inch) in height with the socle present. The socle may or may not be the original but is of the same grey metal. There are a couple of minor chips off the rim of the socle and a number of minor chips to the promontories of the foot. Other than that there are the normal nibbles and flea bite chips to the edges of some of the facets and edges. There are no other chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
An impressive candlestick of practical height for current use.
Lead glass, it weighs in at 1 kg. (~ 2 lb. 3 oz.).
