St. Louis Crysal Astrid pattern shoulder decanter

This is a vintage Cristallerie Saint-Louis Astrid pattern mouth-blown shoulder decanter and stopper dating from around 1930. The design features an Art Deco aesthetic with distinctive decoration of acid-etched “sheaves of water” (gerbes d’eau).

The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the base consistent with nearly 100 years of age and use.

The body of the decanter is in clear glass which has been etched with gerbes d’eau. It has a plain neck. It measures 12 cm (4.8 inches) in diameter at its widest point. The stopper is of mushroom form and is almost certainly the original. It is of the correct form and metal and both decanter and stopper are etched with the number “38”, a device used by the glasshouse to make sure that the stopper and decanter did not get separated. Assembled, the decanter measures 22 cm (8.8 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, scratches or any evidence of restoration. It is unsigned as all St. Louis crystal was until 1936. It has a polished out pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

It weighs in at 890 g. (~ 2 lb.).
