This is a studio glass mouth-blown water jug designed and blown by either/both of Robin Smith or Jeff Walker of Melting Pot Glassworks in Lancashire and probably dating from the 1990s.
The jug is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows the age related wear and tear to the rim of the base commensurate with some 300 years of use.
The body of the jug is a tapered cylinder and is undecorated. The bowl rim is 12 cm (4.8 inches) in diameter and has a small extended pouring lip. It sits on a thick capstan stem and a conical foot measuring 10.2 cm (4.1 inches) in diameter. The jug is 24 cm (9.6 inches) in height. The handle is of moulded strap form with ribbing to facilitate carrying. There are no chips, cracks, or any obvious evidence of restoration. It carries a plastic sticker to the top of the foot which reads “studio glass the melting pot glassworks made in u.k.” and is signed by both Robin and Jeff to the underside of the foot.
It weighs 1.585 kg. (3 lb. 8 oz.).
