This is a matched pair of Georgian, mouth-blown taper-shaped spirit decanters dating from the end of the 18th century, c1790.
The decanters are in excellent condition for their age. They show age related wear and tear to the rims of the bases consistent with some 200 years of use. They have polished out pontil marks to the underside of the bases.
The decanters each have three applied annular neck rings. The decanters are otherwise plain. The bases measure 9 cm (3.6 inches) in diameter and bear polished out pontil marks. The decanters measure 19 cm (7.6 inches) in height without the stoppers and 24 cm (9.6 inches) in height with the stoppers inserted. Dimensions vary slightly from decanter to decanter as is to be expected of hand-blown glassware. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a rough upturned part to one pouring lip which dates from manufacture when it was badly finished off. See the appropriate image for detail.
The stoppers are of teardrop lozenge form, and appear to be the originals. They are of the same metal and age and are a good fit. There is the usual nibbling to the ends of the stopper pegs.
The pair weighs in at 800 g. (~ 1 lb. 12 oz.). Spirit decanters holding 500 ml. of liquid each (to the top of the lowest neck ring).
