This is a rare, limited edition, Kosta of Sweden Portal sculpture, model 7173002, designed by Bertil Vallien.
The sculpture is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some use.
The sculpture is in the form of a flat backed arch, the back smooth and unadorned, the front showing fantastical scenes and protuberances including fingers, a face, mirrors, stairs and cones. It is cast in blue glass enhanced in red/ochre. The sculpture measures 15 cm (6 inches) across at its widest point and is 20.5 cm (8.2 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. The base is inscribed “7173002 Kosta Boda Lim Ed 6/60” and is signed “B Vallien” to the back, just above the base.
Heavy lead glass. It weighs in at 3.74 kg. (~ 8 lb. 4 oz.).
