This is a small glass studio bowl blown by the American, Charlie Meaker (1946-2011) in England where he was a professor in Sunderland in the 1970 after a stint at Dartington Glass. His works are exhibited internationally and examples can be seen here in the UK at the V&A.
The bowl is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows some age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with use.
The bowl has been blown in clear glass with a black glass rim. The bowl measures 13.2 cm (5.3 inches) in diameter at its widest point and sits on a small black glass foot which has been decorated on the upper surface with either gold or oxidised silver leaf. The bowl measures 6.8 cm (2.7 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration. There is a plastic label for “Charles Meaker England” just under the rim.
The bowl weighs in at 235 g. (~ 8 oz.).
