This is a Georgian double series opaque twist stem cordial glass dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1765.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the foot.
The glass has a rounded bucket-shaped bowl measuring 4.2 cm (1.7 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is finger-flute moulded to the lower half and sits on a double series opaque twist stem consisting of twenty white “cotton” enamel strands wound around a central twist of two enamel cords. The stem leads to a conical foot that measures 7.3 cm (2.9 inches) in diameter. The glass is 17.2 cm (6.8 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a collector’s sticker to the bottom of the foot.
It is made from English lead metal and weighs 174 g. (~ 6 oz.).
