This is a Georgian, English, double series opaque twist wine glass dating from the second half of the 18th century, c1765.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has a rounded funnel-shaped bowl measuring 5.7 cm (2.3 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is flute-moulded to the lower half and sits on a double series opaque twist stem consisting of a pair of white enamel tapes twisted around a central twist of two enamel cords. The stem ends in a conical foot which measures 7.4 cm (2.9 inches) in diameter and which has a distinct shear mark to the edge. The glass is 15 cm (6 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a small white inclusion in the metal of the bowl dating from manufacture. There is a dealer’s or collector’s sticker showing an old price to the underside of the foot.
English lead glass weighing in at 135 g. (~ 5 oz.).
