This is a Georgian, English, engraved plain stem dram or firing glass dating from the second half of the 18th century, c1780.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has a small ovoid-shaped bowl measuring 4.8 cm (1.9 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is wheel-engraved with swags and tails and is wrythen finger flute moulded to the lower third. The bowl sits on an extruded plain stem that leads to a thick, conical, almost firing foot which measures 6 cm (2.4 inches) in diameter. The glass is 10 cm (4 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a collector’s sticker to the top of the foot.
Lead glass weighing in at 125 g. (~ 4 1/2 oz.).
