Georgian Indian club shaped decanter, lozenge stopper

£65.00

This is a tall Georgian, mouth-blown, Indian club-shaped full size (holds a full bottle of wine) decanter dating from the early 19th century, c1820.

The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear consistent with some 200 years of use.

The decanter is Indian club shaped with three applied annular neck rings. The neck is cut with vertical panels and the shoulders are cut with broad petal flutes, and there is a basal band of finger flute cutting. The base is also plain with a polished out pontil mark to its centre and measures 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter. The decanter is 24.5 cm (9.8 inches) in height without the stopper and 30 cm (12 inches) in height with the stopper inserted.

The stopper is of cut lozenge form, and is possibly the original. It is an excellent fit.

There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.

English lead glass decanter weighing in at 1.13 kg. (~ 2 lb. 8 oz).
