This is a Georgian, mould-blown monteith or bonnet glass dating from the end of the 18th century, c1780.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some 240 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass is in the clear colourway and double ogee in shape and measures 6 cm (2.4 inches) in diameter at the upper rim. The bowl is moulded in a nipt diamond waies pattern. The bowl ends in a short moulded stem and a petal-moulded foot that measures 5.7 cm (2.2 inches) in diameter. The glass is 8 cm (3.2 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration. There are two collectors’ stickers to the bottom of the foot.
It weighs 140 g. (~ 5 oz.).
