This is a set of seven framed sketches by William Beilby (1740-1819), brother to Thomas and Mary Beilby, the three of whom enamelled Georgian glassware in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the middle to late 18th century and who are immortalised in the books “The Beilby Odyssey” and “The Ingenious Beilbys”. The group includes an early watercolour landscape of Loch Leven, and a country lane watercolour with horses. Four of the examples are inscribed and/or signed.
The sketches are in excellent condition for their age. They have each been framed with the same wooden and card edging to provide for continuity and are behind ultraviolet resistant anti-reflective glass. The back of each sketch has been photocopied and attached to the back of the frame for convenience. They each measure approximately 30 cm by 25 cm in their framed form but dimensions vary slightly from sketch to sketch.
