This is a Georgian, glass pilgrim flask or flat-sided bottle dating from the early to middle part of the 18th century, c1730.
The flask is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 300 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the apex of the foot.
The flask has a circular-shaped bowl, flattened, and measuring 21.5 cm (8.6 inches) in diameter. The bowl is plain and has a short neck with an everted rim. It sits on a domed and folded foot which measures 12.8 cm (5.1 inches) in diameter. The flask is 31 cm (12.4 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
High quality soda glass weighing in at 500 g. (~ 1 lb. 2 oz.). The base carries a collector’s sticker and another for the Paul Kettle Collection.
