Early Victorian cut glass cream jug

1 in stock

This is an early Victorian cut glass cream jug dating from the mid 19th century, c1850.

The jug is in excellent condition for its age. This means of course that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 150 years of use. It has a polished out pontil mark on the underside of the base.

The jug has a hand-cut baluster-shaped bowl and an elongated pouring rim measuring 10 cm (4 inches) by 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter. The bowl bears an applied handle that is finished off at the bottom of the bowl, having been first attached to the top. The base of the jug is plain save for the star-cutting to the foot which measures 6 cm (2.4 inches) in diameter. The jug is 11.5 cm (4.6 inches) to the top of the spout. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There are a couple of manufacturing marks near the lower handle terminal; these are not cracks.

A nice little jug of some charm weighing in at 405 g. (~ 14 oz.).
