This is an early 19th century, mouth-blown, cut glass bonbonnière and cover dating from the beginning of the 19th century, c1830.
The bonbonnière is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear consistent with some 200 years of use.
The bonbonnière is approximately cup-shaped and measures 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter at its everted rim. The bowl is olive-cut to the outside of the rim, under which sits a band swag and tail cutting highlighted with stars. The bowl sits on a plain conical foot which sports a polished out pontil mark to the underside. The bonbonnière is 8.8 cm (3.5 inches) in height without the cover and 15 cm (6 inches) in height with the cover on.
The cover is cut with olives to its edge above which sits a band of leaf cutting and a facet cut finial. We believe it to be the original. It is of the same colour and metal as the bonbonnière and is a good fit.
There are no significant chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other evidence of restoration. A pretty piece of cut glass in excellent condition.
Anglo Irish lead glass weighing in at 470 g. (~ 1 lb.).
