This is a tall studio glass vase, designed and mould-blown by Mieke Groot (Maria Margaretha Cornelia Anna Groot) (b1949). Her work is part of the collection of the Corning Museum of Glass, the National Glasmuseum in Leerdam, Netherlands and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England. This vase was probably blown in Amsterdam, Netherlands in the late 1980s.
The vase is in excellent condition. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with age and use.
The vase is of abstract form, reminiscent of a human torso, and measures 19 cm (9.8 inches) by 10.5 cm (4.2 inches) in width and depth and is 41 cm (16.4 inches) in height. The vase is acid-etched to create a scarvo type effect in autumn colours and ends in a base which carries a four-leaf shamrock shaped pontil or gadget mark. The vase is unsigned. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. It rocks a little on its base.
It weighs in at 2.05 kg. (~ 4 lb. 8 oz.).
