Richardsons of Stourbridge vitrified enamel wine jug and two goblets

SORRY SOLD

Out of stock

This is a scarce Richardsons of Stourbridge set of vitrified enamel jug and two goblets dating from the middle of the 19th century, c1850.

The jug and goblets are in excellent condition for their age. This means of course that they show age related wear and tear to the rims of the base/feet consistent with some 170 years of use.

The jug has a baluster-shaped bowl measuring 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter at the gilded pouring rim. The bowl is in white “frosted” glass decorated en grisaille with two scenes of Arabic-looking water bearers, and ends in a base that measures 8.7 cm (3.5 inches) in diameter. It is 13.5 cm (5.4 inches) in diameter at its widest point. The jug is 23 cm (9.2 inches) in height. The applied handle was first affixed to the top of the jug and then finished off at the middle. The handle is decorated with gilding. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration. There is a registered diamond trademark for “Richardson Vitrified” to the underside of the base. The jug weighs in at 1.01 kg. (~ 2 lb. 4 oz.).

The goblets have ovoid-shaped bowls measuring 9 cm (3.6 inches) in diameter at the gilded rims. The bowls of the goblets are in white “frosted” glass decorated en grisaille with two scenes of Arabic-looking water bearers, and sit on collars and inverted baluster stems that end in conical feet which measure 9.5 cm (3.8 inches) in diameter. The goblets are 16.5 cm (6.6 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration. There is a registered diamond trademark for “Richardsons Vitrified” to the underside of one of the feet.

Each goblet weighs in at 410 g. (~ 14 oz.).
