This is a Hadeland of Norway heavy, engraved glass vase, designed by Arne Jon Jutrem (1929-2005), the design dating from 1955. Arne was winner of the prestigious Lunning prize in 1959 and received a gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1954.
The vase is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some 70 years of use and with flea bite chips to the edge of the base as can be seen in the appropriate image.
The vase is blown in clear glass and is roughly oval in shape. One side is sand-blasted with a man and woman dancing. It measures 13 cm (5.2 inches) in diameter at its widest point. It ends in a base which is plain above which are etched the letters “ajj 605” (ajj for Arne Jon Jutrem) and “hdl-55” (Hadeland 1955). The vase is 23.5 cm (9.4 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration.
It weighs in at 2.46 kg. (~ 4 lb. 15 oz.).
