This is a Victorian acid-etched set of water jug and two goblets, attributed to Richardsons of Stourbridge, and made in the middle of the 19th century.
The items are in excellent condition for their age. They show some age related wear and tear commensurate with use.
The jug measures 9.5 cm (3.8 inches) across the trefoil shaped pouring rim. The jug has been acid-etched to give a frosted appearance of water lilies. Charles R. Hajdamach writes on how this was done in his wonderful book – “British Glass 1800-1914”. The body sits on a small, conical foot which has a polished out pontil mark to the under side. The handle was first applied to the top of the jug and then finished off at the shoulder. The jug is 20 cm (8 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
The goblets measure 9.3 cm (3.7 inches) in diameter at the rims. The bowls have been acid-etched to give a frosted appearance of water lilies in the same way as the jug. The bowls sit on plain stems that end in conical feet etched in the same pattern as the bowls. They have polished out pontil marks to the undersides of the feet. The goblets are 14.5 cm (5.8 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
Together they weigh in at 1,550 g. (~ 3 lb. 9 oz.).
