This is an early William III/Queen Anne heavy baluster stem wine glass dating from the turn of the 17th/18th centuries, c1700. Bickerton (L. M. Bickerton, 18th Century English Drinking Glasses) shows an almost identical glass on plate 64 which is attributed to that date.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot consistent with some 300 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has a heavy bottomed rounded funnel-shaped bowl measuring 6.7 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is plain and sits on an inverted baluster stem containing a well-worked air tear. The stem leads to a conical, folded foot that measures 8 cm (3.2 inches) in diameter. The glass is 13.8 cm (5.5 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious signs of restoration.
English lead glass. It weighs in at 253 g. ( ~ 9 oz.).
