This is an early Georgian heavy baluster stem wine glass dating from the early 18th century, c1720. Bickerton (L. M. Bickerton, 18th Century English Drinking Glasses) shows glasses of similar stem form but with trumpet or bell bowls on plates 91-93.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot consistent with some 300 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has a heavy bottomed rounded funnel-shaped bowl measuring 8 cm (3.2 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is plain and sits on a true baluster stem. The stem leads to a domed and folded foot that measures 7.8 cm (3.1 inches) in diameter. The glass is 15.2 cm (6.1 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious signs of restoration.
English lead glass. It weighs in at 255 g. ( ~ 9 oz.).
