This is a Georgian, Continental four-sided pedestal stem wine glass dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1750.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot..
The glass has a rounded funnel-shaped bowl measuring 6 cm (2.4 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is plain and sits on a moulded four-sided pedestal stem which ends in a conical, folded foot that measures 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter. The glass is 13.5 cm (5.4 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There are a few minute unburst bubbles and inclusion in the metal of the bowl, all dating from manufacture and consistent with the soda metal of the time.
It is made from soda metal weighing 74 g. (~ 2 1/2 oz.).
