Georgian polychrome enamelled schnapps flask

SORRY SOLD

Out of stock

This is a mid-European (probably German) enameled spirit flask dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1750.

The flask is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base commensurate with over 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the base.

The flask is rectangular in shape with canted corners measuring 7 cm (2.8 inches) in width and 13.5 cm (5.4 inches) in height. The flask is polychrome enameled with a woman in period dress on one broad side and words in white on the reverse. There are enameled polychrome leaf fronds on the narrower sides and a red and yellow enameled band to the top of the flask, which is topped off by a slightly damaged pewter cap at the neck. There are no chips, cracks, or any evidence of restoration to the glass.

It weighs 160 g. (~ 5 1/2 oz.).
