Victorian pair of Bristol blue three-ring decanters, bull’s eye stoppers

This is a pair of Victorian, mouth-blown, broad-based taper-shaped, three ring, full size Bristol blue decanters dating from the second half of the 19th century, c1880. They each hold about one full bottle of wine.

The decanters are in excellent condition for their age. This means, of course, that they show age related wear and tear consistent with some 150 years of use.

The decanters are broad-based taper-shaped with everted pouring rims. The decanters were blown in Bristol blue glass with three applied annular neck rings applied to each. The bodies carry engraved faux labels for Whiskey and Hollands. The bases measure 11.5 cm (4.6 inches) in diameter and have polished out pontil marks to the underside. The decanters measure 21.5 cm (8.6 inches) in height without the stoppers and 27 cm (10.8 inches) in height with the stoppers inserted.

The stoppers are of bull’s eye or target form and are almost certainly the originals. They are an excellent fit, and are of the right colour, style and size.

There are no significant chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration.

Each decanter weighs 690 g. (~ 1 lb. 8 oz.).
