This is a Georgian, English, engraved plain stem wine goblet dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1750.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 270 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has an ovoid-shaped bowl measuring 8.7 cm (3.5 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is nicely engraved with a large open (sun?)flower and a bird in flight to verso. The bowl sits on a plain stem and a conical foot which also measures 8.7 cm (3.5 inches) in diameter. The glass is 17.5 cm (7 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious signs of restoration. There are a couple of unburst bubbles in the metal of the foot, dating from manufacture. It bears a slightly eroded sticker to the underside of the foot for the Harald Leuba Collection. It rocks slightly on its foot.
English lead glass weighing in at 395 g. (~ 14 oz.).
