This is a Georgian, mouth-blown, Prussian-shaped full size wine decanter dating from the early 19th century, c1820.
The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear consistent with some 200 years of use.
The decanter is Prussian shaped with three applied annular neck rings. The shoulders are cut with broad petal flutes and there is a basal band of finger fluting. The base is also plain with a polished out pontil mark to its centre and measures 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter. The decanter is 21 cm (8.4 inches) in height without the stopper and 25 cm (10 inches) in height with the stopper inserted.
The stopper is of radially cut mushroom form, and is probably the original. It is of the same colour and metal as the decanter and is an excellent fit.
There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a tiny white inclusion in the metal within the finger fluting and a tiny unburst bubble halfway up the decanter. The decanter has been professionally cleaned.
