This is a scarce Iittala of Finland leaf bowl, designed by Tapio Wirkkala, the design dating from 1955.
The bowl is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the base consistent with some 70 years of use.
The bowl is blown in clear glass and is blown in the shape of a leaf with curled edges. The underside of the bowl has been incised with “veins” replicating the appearance of a leaf. It measures 17.5 cm (7 inches) in diameter. On the edge of the under side of the bowl are etched the words “Tapio Wirkkala Iittala – 57”. The bowl is 3.5 cm (1.4 inches) in height. There is some very light scratching of the outer surface. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
It weighs in at 485 g. (~ 1 lb. 1 oz.).
