This is a very large Murano sommerso glass basket, attributed to Flavio Poli (1900-1984) for Seguso Vetri d’Arte, the design dating from the 1960s. The colourway is very distinctive and is seen in other examples of his work.
The basket is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some 60 years of use.
The basket is blown in clear glass over blue changing to purple in typical Flavio Poli “submerged” glass fashion. It measures 18.5 cm (7.4 inches) in diameter at its widest point. It ends in a base which is plain. The basket is an impressive 36 cm (14.4 inches) in height. There are some minor flea bites to the edge of the base. There are no other chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration.
It weighs in at 1.57 kg. (~ 3 lb. 7 oz.).
