This is a larger than normal Georgian, mould-blown, diamond and prism moulded, clear glass cream jug dating from the beginning of the 19th century, c1820.
The jug is in excellent condition for its age. This means of course that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some 200 years of use. It has a roughly polished out pontil mark on the underside of the base.
The jug has a baluster-shaped bowl measuring 7.7 cm (3.1 inches) in diameter at the pouring rim. The bowl is diamond, prism and flute moulded from top to bottom. The jug is 12 cm (4.8 inches) across at its widest point (pouring spout to outside of the handle) and is 10.8 cm (4.3 inches) in height. The bowl sits on a conical foot which measures 5.7 cm (2.2 inches) in diameter. The handle was first applied to the top of the bowl and then finished off at the bottom of the bowl with a curlicue. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration. There is a collector’s sticker to the base.
A pretty, period jug weighing in at 185 g. (~ 6 1/2 oz.).
