This is a William IV/early Victorian English glass souvenir tankard with an applied handle dating from the first half of the 19th century, c1840.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200 years of use. It has a partially polished out pontil mark on the underside of the base.
The glass has a cylindrical bowl measuring 8.6 cm (3.4 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is etched with a barley ear and hop flower cartouche within which sit the words “A present from Southport”. The glass ends in a base which measures 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter. The glass is 9.8 cm (3.9 inches) in height. The handle was first applied to the top of the bowl and then finished off at the bottom. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a small unburst bubble in the base near the edge, and a dark inclusion near it, both dating from manufacture.
It weighs in at 300 g. (~ 11 oz.).
