Georgian large wrythen moulded dwarf ale glass or goblet

SORRY SOLD

Out of stock

This is a scarce Georgian, English, large wrythen-moulded dwarf ale glass or goblet dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1760.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has an extended rounded funnel-shaped bowl measuring 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter at the upper rim. The bowl is wrythen-moulded to the lower half and sits on a short, knopped stem and a conical foot which measures 7.6 cm (3 inches) in diameter. The glass is 14.2 cm (5.7 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.

It is made from lead metal weighing 190 g. (~ 7 oz.). A nice period glass capable of holding a modern serving of wine.
