Georgian small facet cut stem wine glass, Chinoiserie engraving

SORRY SOLD

Out of stock

This is a small Georgian, Chinoiserie-engraved facet cut stem wine glass dating from the late 18th century, c1780.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows the age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200+ years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has an ovoid-shaped bowl measuring 4.8 cm (1.9 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is beautifully engraved with a Chinoiserie scene of pagodas and a male figure among trees, and sits on a hexagonal facet cut stem. The stem leads to a conical foot that measures 6.6 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter. The glass is 12.2 cm (4.9 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There are two collectors’ stickers to the underside of the foot, one of which is for the Peter Eales collection.

English lead glass weighing in at 120 g. (~ 4 oz.).
