Georgian broad based taper decanter and stopper

SORRY SOLD

Out of stock

This is a Georgian, broad-based taper decanter dating from the turn of the 18th/19th centuries, c1800. It holds just over one full bottle of wine.

The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear consistent with some 250 years of use.

The decanter is a broad based taper in shape. The neck is adorned with three manually applied annular neck rings, the joins being apparent. The base is plain save for a polished out pontil mark and measures 11.5 cm (4.6 inches) in diameter. The decanter is 22.7 cm (9.1 inches) in height without the stopper and 28.5 cm (11.4 inches) in height with the stopper inserted.

The stopper is of clipped disk form, and is probably not the original. It is of the same age and style as the decanter and is an excellent fit but the metal is slightly clearer.

There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.

English lead glass decanter weighing in at 775 g. (~ 1 lb. 11 oz).
