This is a tall Edinburgh Crystal Thistle pattern wine decanter. We believe this to be the tallest in the range.
The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows some age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with use.
The decanter has been blown in clear glass and has a vertically facet cut neck. The shoulders are decorated with hatched cutting with a band of panel cutting at the waist. The bottom section of the decanter is etched with the thistle design. The decanter measures 11.5 cm (4.6 inches) in diameter at its widest point and the base is star-cut. The decanter is 22 cm (8.8 inches) in height without the stopper, and 31 cm (12.4 inches) tall with the stopper inserted. The stopper is of thistle form and is almost certainly the original. It is decorated with the same cut hatching and thistle etching. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration. The words “Made in Edinburgh Scotland” are etched onto the bottom of the base.
Lead glass weighing in at 1.57 kg. (~ 3 lb. 7 oz.).
