This is a Georgian baluster patch stand dating from the early part of the 18th century, c1730. Patch stands were used by ladies to hold their beauty patches (or beauty spots) on retiring.
The stand is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The stand has a small round bowl measuring 8.5 cm (3.4 inches) in diameter at the upwardly turned rim. The bowl is plain and sits on a stem consisting of a cushion knop and an inverted baluster. The stem leads to a conical, folded foot which measures 6.3 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter. The stand is 6.3 cm (2.5 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, scratches or any obvious signs of restoration.
It weighs just 125 g. (~ 4 1/2 oz.).
