This is a mouth-blown, Georgian, Bohemian, small, kugel-cut cruet jug dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1760. An example can be seen on page 130 of Andy McConnell’s book, “The Decanter, Ancient to Modern”.
The decanter jug is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear consistent with some 200+ years of use.
The decanter jug reservoir is globular in shape with an extended flute-cut neck that ends in a pouring spout with pinched lip. The body is decorated with a floral pattern made-up by symmetrically cut printies. The body sits on a short, conical foot with a rough pontil mark to its centre that shows some of the black residue from the iron pontil used. It measures 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter at its widest point and is 15 cm (6 inches) in height. The decanter jug has an applied glass strap handle which was first attached to the neck of the decanter and was finished off on the body with a small curlicue.
There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There are numerous small unburst bubbles and inclusions in the metal of the decanter jug as should be expected of the Continental glass of the period.
The decanter jug weighs in at 260 g. (~ 9 oz).
