This is a Georgian, mouth-blown glass cream jug with an applied blue glass rim dating from the turn of the 18th/19th centuries, c1800.
The jug is in excellent condition for its age. This means of course that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some 200 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the base.
The jug has a baluster-shaped bowl measuring 6.4 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter at the pouring rim. The pouring rim is enhanced with an applied blue glass rim and the body shows the remains of gilding and enamelling. The gilding below the rim is heavily rubbed but is a border of what appears to be a trailing grapevine with a regular pattern of red dots. The gilding and enamelling on the body lower down is so heavily rubbed as to be indecipherable. The jug is 9.5 cm (3.8 inches) across at its widest point (pouring spout to outside of the handle) and is 9.4 cm (3.7 inches) in height. The handle was first applied to the top of the bowl and then finished off at the bottom of the bowl with a curlicue. There is a long shallow scratch running laterally from the lower handle terminal. It is not a crack. There are no chips, cracks, other significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration. There is a small black inclusion in the metal of the bowl dating from manufacture.
A pretty, period jug weighing in at 145 g. (~ 5 oz.).
