This is a Georgian, hop and barley engraved glass ale or beer tumbler dating from the second half of the 18th century, c1780.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base commensurate with some 200 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the base.

The bowl is engraved with a single hop flower and with a single barley ear to verso and ends in a base that measures 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter. The glass is 9.8 cm (3.9 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a small unburst bubble just below the bowl rim dating from manufacture. There is a collector’s sticker on the glass near the base.
