This is a Georgian pair of Continental gilded ratafia glasses, dating from approximately 1800.

The glasses are in good condition for their age. They show age related wear and tear to the extreme rims of the feet consistent with age and use. They have partly polished out pontil marks on the underside of the feet.

The glasses have thin funnel-shaped bowls measuring 5.3 cm (2.1 inches) in diameter at the rims. The glasses have been blown in clear glass and then gilded in a swag and tail pattern. The bowls sit on extruded diamond facet cut stems that end in conical feet that measure 5.8 cm (2.3 inches) and 6.7 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter; one being significantly wider than the other and has probably been professionally ground at some time in the past. The glasses are an elegant 19.7 cm (7.9 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other obvious signs of restoration. The gilding is extremely rubbed with little of the remaining gilt visible.

High quality soda glass, each weighs in at 125 g. ( ~ 4 1/2 oz.).
