Georgian/Regency strawberry diamond cut glass scent bottle and stopper

£55.00

This is a late Georgian strawberry-cut glass scent bottle dating from the beginning of the 19th century, c1840.

The scent bottle is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the base consistent with some 200+ years of age and use.

The body of the jar is spherical, and is has been wheel-cut with prism cuts above a wide band of strawberry-cut ovals above a further prism cut. It measures 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter at its widest point. The base is star-cut to the edge in the fashion of the day. The lid is of radially cut mushroom form in the same pattern, and is almost certainly the original. Assembled, the jar measures 15 cm (6 inches) in height. There is some chipping to the edge of the stopper peg. There are no other chips, cracks, scratches or any evidence of restoration.

A rare survivor in excellent condition for its type. It weighs in at 865 g. (~ 1 lb. 15 oz.).
